PLC, Motion & Controls
What this covers
Controls that someone else can support
PLC work is structured around how the machine will be maintained — not just how it was initially commissioned. Program organisation, alarm structure, and tag naming all follow a convention that makes fault-finding faster for whoever is on site next.
Motion work is primarily Siemens S120 (booksize and chassis) and S210 servo drives, commissioned through STARTER or TIA Portal V19+. The S120 demo rig was built specifically for development, training, and customer demonstrations.
TIA Portal programs
Structured PLC code with clear OB/FB/FC hierarchy, consistent naming, and documented alarms.
S120 motion
Axis bring-up, parameter sets, ePos sequences, and trace-based commissioning for Siemens S120.
HMI design
WinCC Comfort/Advanced screens built for operator use — not just for the programmer.
Alarm strategy
Clear alarm categorisation, interlock logic, and recovery procedures that reduce downtime.
